GHAMRO Will Stop Sing-A-Thon If … – Rex Omar Bares Teeth At Asantewaa

The Chairman of the Board of the Ghana Music Rights Organization has boldly hinted at the cancellation of Afua Asantewaa Aduonum’s Guinness World Record Sing-A-Thon, citing certain reasons in a recent interview on Accra-based national Television channel, GTV with host of the breakfast show, Kafui Dey.

To prevent her challenge from being canceled, Afua Asantewaa is required to provide copies of all the songs she intends to perform on the day to GHAMRO, as stated by the NAKOREX trio legend.

According to the ‘Abiba’ hitmaker, she needs the permission of the rights owners to use the intellectual property for her challenge, so she needs to follow the correct procedure.

Ghana Music Rights Organization is a royalties collection agency within Ghana, that represents the rights of music copyright holders. It was created under section 49 of the Copyright Law, Act 690 of 2005.

The Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) was founded under section 49 of the Copyright Law, Act 690 of 2005 and regulated under L.I. 1962 of 2010 to collect and share royalties on behalf of authors/composers and other right owners.

Like all other copyright societies, GHAMRO is a non-profit corporate body (limited by guarantee) and therefore all fees collected are distributed among the right owners whose works have been used, in this instance composers, authors and producers, publishers in proportion to the use made of their works.

As per the challenge guidelines, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has to croon more than 3,200 tunes from Ghana in 117 hours as the old record stands at 105 hours since 2012.

She can only repeat a tune after the fourth hour, and each song she performs cannot go longer than two minutes.

The Sing A-Thon for the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual challenge is set to take place at Akwaaba village – Airport roundabout from Sunday, December 24, 2023, through Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) steps in as a strategic partner to assist make the event a memorable historic one.

The Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual belongs to India’s Sunil Waghmare.

Waghamare was the first person to finish the longest singing marathon in 2012, singing for 105 hours without break.
