American record producer, rapper, singer, and songwriter, Pharrell Williams is likely to be appointed as the new head designer of menswear at Louis Vuitton, at least according to a report disseminated on Tuesday, February 14.
Citing the Wall Street Journal, which stated that, โpeople familiar withโ the situation, the move would see Pharrell taking on the role once held by the late Ghanaian-American Virgil Abloh. Tuesdayโs report was lean on extra details, adding namely that LV was presently in conversations with Pharrell about the probable designation.
My sources has reached out to reps for Louis Vuitton and Pharrell for remark.
Abloh was appointed artistic director of LVโs menswear division in March 2018, with his first exhibition in the role taking place in Paris the following June. At the time, Abloh mentioned that taking on the portfolioโwhich witnessed the accomplished versatile creative force making history in the processโwas โan honor.โ
Unfortunately, Abloh passed away in November 2021 at the age of 41 after a two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma. His demise was an astonishing one, with Ablohโs death mourned not only across the fashion enterprise space but by collaborators and admirers across all artistic space.
Undoubtedly, Pharrell, has an a comprehensive fashion existence of his own. Last November, he granted an interview with Mike DeStefano for Complex about what then marked his current collaborative effort, the Moncler Maya 70.
However, wrapping up the interview was a question about the recent state of fashion and where it might go next. Pharrell submitted a characteristically forward-thinking and hopeful appraisal, both of fashion at large and his individual creative process.
