Safaree Samuels has admitted that he was hurt emotionally seeing his ex-sweetheart, Nicki Minaj and Nas share a kiss in the music video for “Right By My Side” in 2012.
The “Love & Hip Hop” star disclosed this during a recent appearance on the “Keep It A Stack” podcast and uttered that, “You wanna know what’s so crazy? I didn’t know it happened until the video came out. “N**ga, I was hurt. When that s**t happened, I was hurt.”
He proceeded and added that , “I was there the whole day so I was like, ‘Damn. Did that happen when I left to go? I must’ve left for like an hour, two hours and I think that’s when that scene happened, yo.”
Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuels first met in Queens, New York, in 2000. They were aspiring rappers who both shared a mutual passion for Hip Hop until their breakup in 2014. The two have undoubtedly had a messy relationship and breakup. Several tracks on Minaj’s third album “The Pinkprint” are believed to have been inspired by the end of their relationship.
Eight years later, Safaree is still banking on his work with Nicki Minaj. Since his split with Nicki Minaj, Safaree Samuels has been trying to step out of her shadow, making things happen on his own.
Nicki proceeded to date Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill for a while and then ended up in the arms of the Queens rap legend, Nas in 2017.
The Queens rappers sparked dating rumors back in May, 2017 and took things much more publicly in months for Nas’ 44th birthday (September 14).
However, per TMZ accounts, the couple broke up a few weeks before 2017 ended. The article claimed that the relationship became strained due to Nicki living in Miami and Nas being on the other side of the country in Los Angeles.
Minaj has since married Kenneth Petty.
The Young Money records signee previously worked as the deputy editor of Life & Style, In Touch, and Closer Weekly. She met her now-spouse Kenneth “Zoo” Petty when she was just a teenager. The pair first crossed paths when they were students at the same high school.
