Black Sherif Picked Up By Police Due To Failure To Perform For A Cruise Vessel In Greece

Reigning VGMA Artiste of the Year, Mohammed Sharrif stage name Black Sherif has allegedly been held up at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) and sent to Police headquarters on the evening of July 19, 2023.

According to numerous confirmed reports via digital media on Wednesday, the โ€˜Sojaโ€˜ vocalist was picked up from the airport to the police headquarters in Accra due to a contractual breach involving a gig that he erred to honour in Greece.

Blogger and Radio Host Kofi Adoma Nwanwani of Kofi TV who also corroborated the news of the detention disclosed that the incident reportedly spins around a gig that was scheduled to take place in Greece on July 4.

โ€œThere are some developments arising from the camp of leading Ghanaian musician Black Sherif, the information we picked from the Police headquarters indicates that he was picked by the Ghana Police Service,โ€ he mentioned.

Blacko affectionately called by fans had allegedly charged a fee of US$40,000 for his performance and had received half payment of the amount in advance.

โ€œWe called our sources but we are yet to call Black Sherif to hear his side of the story, however, it appears it is due to issues with the organizer of the event where he was contracted to play on a cruise ship in Greece after he charged US$40,000 and receiving half of the amount,โ€ Vanderpuye explained.

However, he fell flat to fulfilling his commitment and performing at the show, ushering to a complaint being filed against him by the client.
As an outcome of the contractual dispute, the artist was placed on a stop list, deterring him from leaving the country. Kofi Adomah, the host of Kofi TV, stated that Black Sherif was anticipated to receive the balance of the payment after the performance.

โ€œHe was shocked when he was stopped by the police and arrested then taken to the police headquarters. As it stands out now theyโ€™re yet to decide if he will get bail or how theyโ€™ll discuss how he pays back the money,โ€ he counted.

Black Sherif was coming back from a European tour where he performed at several music festivals including the Wireless Festival and AfroNation in Portugal among others.

The report of Black Sherifโ€™s detention has sent shivers through the music industry and among his groupies.

As one of the nationโ€™s biggest musical export at the moment, Black Sherif has attained substantial fame for his distinctive style and captivating concerts, making him one of the countryโ€™s most sought-after entertainers.
