Tuesday (Sept. 12) evening MTV VMA’s annual event in New Jersey Prudential Center witnessed appearances from a fortune of big names across all genres.
One of the significant guests of the night was Sean โDiddyโ Combs, who was honoured with the Global Icon Award for his relentless profound contributions to music and culture. The moment marked his first appearance at MTVโs grand event since he oversaw emcee obligations in 2005.
After a heartfelt opening from Mary J. Blige, the Harlem native stepped to the stage to perform classics like โIโll Be Missing You,โ โItโs All About the Benjamins,โ โBad Boy For Life,โ โLast Night,โ โMo Money Mo Problems,โ and โI Need A Girl Part 2.โ He was also joined on stage by Yung Miami, Keyshia Cole, his son King Combs, and daughters, DโLila, Jessie and Chance.
Subsequently, after the star-studded performance, Diddy delivered an emotional speech about his modest outsets and longevity in his groundbreaking profession. โLove wins, yโall. Love wins. This is so surreal,โ he began. โI would be in the clubs dancing in New York, doing my Diddy bop, and then people would see me and they would cast me for videos. Thatโs how I fell in love with the music industry. I saw the executives and I wanted to chase that dream.โ
The media mogul furthered and stated, โYou just gotta keep dreaming. I know sometimes, you get hit with those hard thingsโฆ I thank God for this choice that he made for me to be able to touch you with my music, give you a good time, make you dance, make you feel good, thatโs the only intention.โ
Meanwhile, the Bad Boy Entertainment bankroller will on Friday (Sept. 15) bless the world with The Love Album: On The Grid, his first full-length music project since 2015โs MMM (Money Makin Mitch). The Weeknd, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous, H.E.R., Ty Dolla $ign, Summer Walker, French Montana, and more will make appearances on the album.
